A conversation, not a feed
Text chat pairs you with one random person for a typed conversation. No camera, no microphone and no profile to fill in. If the chat is not clicking, press Next; if someone crosses a line, Report or Block them in one tap.
Why text?
- Low pressure. Think before you reply, and leave whenever you like.
- Works anywhere. Quiet office, late night, slow connection: text needs almost no bandwidth.
- Language practice. Add a language and an interest and practise with someone who shares it.
What the other person sees
Only what you choose to share: an optional display name, the language you speak, your country (you can keep it private) and your interests. Never your email, your phone number or your exact location. Velvet does not ask for any of those.
How long messages are kept
Messages pass through Velvet’s server so they can reach your partner, and are held briefly in memory after the chat ends so a report can include them. Then they are discarded. Nothing is kept for advertising. Details are in the privacy notice.
Free filters
Prefer people from your country, or who speak your language, or who like the same things? Choose it on the start screen. Every filter is free, and soft by default so you are never left waiting.
